June 10, 2006 The Pillars of the Harari Heritage Centre (The Sponsor of HSCF 11) As it is a charitable and non-political organization, the Harari Heritage Centre is open to all walks of Hararis who work together for the advancement of our society irrespective of our, socio-cultural affinities. Every community, of course, requires volunteers who can work, sacrifice their time and energy with the view of seeing a glowing light at the end of the tunnel. Therefore, the center’s current focus is to win the hearts and minds of all Hararis and work together to make our society viable and vibrant.
Wait a minute! Take a look at the Center’s current activities: you see people who are quite exemplary, like for instance, Gessi Abdurahman Khalf, Gessi Kamil Gudi and Gessi Abdulghani Ebrahim, to mention just a few. These are the people who, along with other devotees, attend our community unrelieved like a fort everyday after hours. It is their unrelenting fortitude, effort, patience’s and perseverance that has been turning the antiquated dark house into sparkling banquet hall in such a short time. Look at the ceiling; look at the floor and the painting, the new doors and etc. You don’t believe your eyes! especially, if you happen to be at the Centre a couple of weeks ago. Isn’t this amazing? What a change Eh! This has, of course, appealed to the eyes of a few Hararis who kept themselves at bay and now considering to be part of the process in the making -------- of history. Thanks a million guys on behalf of all Hararis and keep up the noble work!!! OnWomen & Youth played the Key role: Do you think this is all? No, this is not all. Move your eyes to the right and you will see the other segment of Hararis who treat this Community Centre (Heritage Centre) in the same way they treat their own home. These are courageous sisters who invested their times, wealth, and energy to get our community moving and taking off, which we all cherish and care for today! Honestly speaking, this group has done everything at its disposal-ranging from car washing to barbeque ------- to Hulbat Marakh and Wakalim ------ to alleviate the financial strains to maintain the facility, which all communities sometimes face during their early stages of development. They committed themselves with pride and for the love of our Heritage Center to do this physically demanding work, Wow!! What do you call these people? What they did before and What are they doing for our 11th Annual Harari Sport and Cultural festival: I don’t know what to call them, but most people call them the “NIGATS” of the society, the diligent Bees of the society. Wow!! Wow!! Raise the curtain again and see what we see! WAKALIM, THE SFAR DARARA, IEED, ARAFA, AFTIRDAAY, THE MAWLOOD ‘AL-NABI’ and much more are thanks to the “NIGATS” Thanks a million the “NIGATS” on behave of all Hararis and may God bless you and help you to keep up the good work!
We are not yet done. Move your eyes to the left and you’ll see another piece of the pie – the Harari Youth, without which our society couldn’t stand on its own feet! The Harari Youth is currently represented by Iman Afan and Aydrus Alawi. It came into existence back in 2003 with its own leaders who work along side the community board member at time when the community is ushering events. The Youth play an important role in providing a wide range of services such as: senior programs, ESL, job searching, counseling, mentoring, resettlement orientations for the new comers, tutorials, history classes (to discover their heritage), and many other classes.
The Youth of today will be the masters of tomorrow’s society and will have a high stake in shaping and molding our future Hararis chapter. Henceforth, the Hararis count on their own Youth who are the nerve of the Hararis future development --- Wow!!!!! Thanks a million for your tireless efforts and we also thank all others (who are considering to join) in advance on behalf the Harari people! Thanks again, HSCF Organizing committee vice chair. |
